Sometimes we act like it’s a four-letter word. We avoid it like the plague. We beat ourselves up when we must do it. We judge others when they engage in it and don’t work as hard as we do.
Work is certainly important, but rest is a necessary and good thing, too…which is why we are creating…
People are hurting. Depression, addictive behavior, suicide, and divorce rates are up dramatically. The Resting Place, a nonprofit organization registered with the state of Tennessee, will provide resources to help individuals and families address spiritual, emotional, and relational needs. We will embody Jesus’ invitation, “Come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest”.
Resources will be developed and provided in four phases with the goal being a beautiful retreat area in the Chattanooga-Cleveland, Tennessee area.
The Resting Place will feature Christian retreat speakers like Dr. Keith Munford.

Phase 1: Development of podcasts and social media posts, as well as a website, logo, and branding.
Phase 2: Provision of retreats (development of outlines, advertisements, location of places for retreats, etc.).
Phase 3: Location of land, buildings, funds, development of budget, business plan, etc.
Phase 4: Opening of retreat and ongoing offering of services and management of the retreat.

We will be working to add some essential items to the space we acquire and develop.
The Resting Place retreat ground will offer opportunities for relaxation, walking, jogging, and several other forms of recreation. The gardens, landscape, and natural areas will contribute to a relaxing atmosphere.
Each room, with a private bath, will be docketed to provide a restful and relaxing experience. Bedding will always be clean and comfortable. Sitting areas will include reading materials which interest and inform the guests.
The Resting Place will provide delicious food to excite and satisfy the appetites of our guests! Every meal will meet all expectations. Dietary needs will be addressed.
A commitment to Grace and Compassion will be the outstanding characteristic of The Resting Place environment.
A licensed counselor will be available, when requested, to address a variety of individual, couple, and family needs. Referrals to other qualified persons will be made, when necessary. Ministers and their families will have access to resources specialized to meet their needs.
A broad range of information regarding personal, marital, and family needs will be available through books, journals, seminars, classes, and online resources.
The Resting Place will partner with others from the Chattanooga/Cleveland region to provide resources to meet needs of individuals, families, and organizations. Partners will include teachers, counselors, exercise leaders, organizations with similar missions, and others.
A variety of programs will be provided to meet the needs of retreat participants.

The Rev. Dr. Keith Munford is a native of Danville, Virginia. He and his wife of more than forty years have two children and two of the greatest grandchildren in the whole, wide world. Keith is a graduate of Lee University (1977), The Pentecostal Theological Seminary (1978), and Emory University (1983). He received the Doctor of Ministry degree from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2001. Keith is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the State of Tennessee, a Certified Educator with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc. and a Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains.
Keith enjoys time with his family, long walks, vacations with his wife, and working in his yard. He continues to have faith that the Tennessee Volunteers football team will once again start winning their games against Georgia, Florida, and Alabama!
